Should I enroll my home battery in a demand response program?

Demand response programs provide great environmental benefits, in addition to earning you some money.

Demand response programs, such as the PG&E Emergency Load Reduction Program, allow utlities to draw electricity from your home battery, up to a certain extent, during very high demand grid times. In addition to earning you some money, this is a great environmental benefit as it decreases the electrical grids need to draw from non-renewable energy sources, and also allows PG&E to reduce their use of power lines in fire prone areas.

You may prefer to not enroll in a program if the primary reason you installed a battery is to have emergency back-up

Depending on the program in which you enroll, these events may be as infrequent as 7-10 days a year.
