The automatic water shut-off valve has a self-check feature that runs every 30 days once the water heater is powered on. This feature works by closing and reopening the automatic water shut-off valve. In case the valve fails to reopen, the water heater is disabled. The water heater gives an alert when the automatic water shut-off valve fails to close.
