Rebate Overview
Overview
The Bay Area Air District's Clean HEET Rebate program offers homeowners rebates ranging from $3,000 to $13,500 to replace wood-burning devices with electric heat pumps. Individual awards range from $3,000 to $10,500 for replacing one stove, insert, or fireplace, and $6,000 to $13,500 for replacing two. A decommission-only option of $1,000 is also available to remove one older, uncertified wood stove or open-hearth fireplace, with an additional $1,000 to remove a second.
This rebate only applies to replacing existing wood appliances.
Benefits
Upgrading to electric heat pumps enhances your home's comfort and energy efficiency. By replacing older wood-burning devices, you contribute to cleaner air and a healthier environment.
More Information
- Eligibility: All Bay Area homeowners are eligible to apply. Priority is given to those in areas most affected by air pollution, such as West Oakland, East Oakland, Richmond-San Pablo, and Bayview Hunters Point/Southeast San Francisco. - Application Process: To participate, you must apply for the Clean HEET program and receive approval from the Air District before starting any work. This ensures that your project meets all program requirements. ([baaqmd.gov](https://www.baaqmd.gov/funding-and-incentives/residents/clean-heet-program?utm_source=openai))
- Device Requirements: Eligible devices include freestanding wood stoves, wood-burning fireplace inserts, and open-hearth fireplaces. Replacement devices must be electric heat pumps; other types are not eligible. ([baaqmd.gov](https://www.baaqmd.gov/funding-and-incentives/residents/clean-heet-program?utm_source=openai))
- Installation Details: Work must be completed by a California licensed contractor, and a building permit and inspection are required. The project should be finished within four months of approval.
