- Eligibility: All Bay Area homeowners are welcome to apply. Priority is given to those in areas most affected by air pollution, such as West Oakland, East Oakland, Richmond-San Pablo, and Bayview Hunters Point/Southeast San Francisco.
- Application Process: To participate, you must receive approval from the Air District before starting any work. This ensures that your project meets all program requirements.
- Device Requirements: Eligible devices include freestanding wood stoves, wood-burning fireplace inserts, and open-hearth fireplaces. Replacement devices must be electric heat pumps; other types are not eligible.
- Installation Details: Work must be completed by a California licensed contractor, and a building permit and inspection are required. The project should be finished within four months of approval.
- Decommissioning: Upon approval, existing wood-burning devices must be permanently destroyed and disposed of by a licensed recycler. This ensures that old, inefficient appliances are safely removed from use.
