Rebate Overview

Overview

The City of Piedmont offers a rebate for homeowners replacing their gas water heaters with electric heat pump water heaters. This program provides a $800 rebate, which is doubled to $1,600 for qualified low-income residents. To qualify as low-income, residents must earn below 80% of the area median income, which is $87,000 for a two-person household. Income eligibility can be verified through a copy of your utility bill showing participation in the CARE or FERA discounted rate programs, verification that the unit is deed-restricted affordable housing, or a copy of your tax returns.

This rebate only applies to replacing existing fossil fuel appliances.

Benefits

Upgrading to an electric heat pump water heater can make your home more comfortable and energy-efficient. These systems are over twice as energy-efficient as standard gas water heaters, leading to significant savings on energy bills. Additionally, using electric heat pump water heaters reduces greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to a healthier environment.
