Overview

Peninsula Clean Energy offers a $2,000 rebate for residents of San Mateo County and the City of Los Banos purchasing a used plug-in hybrid or fully electric vehicle. This rebate is applied at the time of purchase at participating dealerships, with no application required. Alternatively, you can apply on your own and receive the rebate by mail. Private party purchases are not eligible for this program.

More Information

  • Eligibility: To qualify, you must be a resident of San Mateo County or the City of Los Banos and have not received a Peninsula Clean Energy Used EV rebate in the past three years. The vehicle must be a used plug-in hybrid or fully electric, at least two years old, and purchased from a dealership or online retailer. Private party sales do not qualify.
  • Income Qualifications: There are two options to meet income qualifications:
    • Option 1: Modified gross adjusted income cannot exceed $150,000 for married filing jointly or a surviving spouse, $112,500 for heads of households, or $75,000 for all other tax filers. You must provide your most recent 1040 form; 1099 forms and pay stubs are not eligible.
    • Option 2: Participation in an eligible program such as Clean Cars for All, Clean Vehicle Assistance Program, Driving Clean Assistance Program, Clipper START, residency in Affordable Housing, Public Housing, or Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8), Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), CalFresh/SNAP (Food Stamps), Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), CalWORKs (TANF) or Tribal TAN, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Free or Reduced National School Lunch Program (NSLP), or Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance Head Start Income Eligible (Tribal Only).
  • Program End Date: The program is ongoing and does not have a specified end date.
