Overview

Peninsula Clean Energy offers a rebate for homeowners replacing their gas water heaters with heat pump water heaters. You can save $2,500 when upgrading to a new heat pump water heater that replaces your old gas water heater. If you have two water heaters to upgrade, you can save up to $5,000, one per water heater. This rebate only applies to replacing existing fossil fuel appliances.

More Information

  • Rebate amount: $2,500 per heat pump water heater replaced.
  • Limit: One rebate per water heater replaced. Limited to two heat pump water heater rebates per electric account.
  • Rebates are available on a first-come, first-served basis while funds last.
  • Rebate application must be submitted within 90 days of the upgrade’s installation date.
  • Rebates are up to 100% of each upgrade’s installed cost (equipment + labor) or maximum rebate amount, whichever is less.
  • Rebates are available to eligible upgrades installed on or after November 1, 2024.
  • Rebates are available to homeowners in San Mateo County or Los Banos who own the home where the upgrade is being installed.
  • Rebates are available to homeowners who replace gas, propane, or oil appliances with qualified electric ones.
  • Rebates are available to homeowners who submit proof that the old equipment was removed or disabled (like a capped gas line or removal photo).
  • Rebates are available to homeowners who apply for the rebate through Peninsula Clean Energy's application process.
