The SMUD Go Electric Upgrade Bonus is a rebate program that offers up to $500 for each eligible circuit, with a total maximum rebate of $2,000. Eligible circuits include dryer, cooktop/range, electric vehicle, and water heater. To qualify, all circuits must be wired to the source, including wire and breaker. Additionally, if more panel space is needed to electrify the home, up to $500 is available to install a sub-panel. This rebate is provided by the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD).

- To be eligible, you must replace an existing gas furnace or gas water heater with a qualifying heat pump.
- All circuits must be wired to the source, including wire and breaker.
- The home must be all-electric ready with the panel plus all eligible circuits to qualify.
- You must use a participating contractor in the SMUD Contractor Network to submit rebates.
- Federal tax credits are available for qualifying panel upgrades installed starting January 1, 2023.
- The tax credit allows you to claim up to 30% of the project cost, up to a maximum of $600.
- The tax credit expires on December 31, 2025.
- The electric panel upgrade must be installed in your existing home and principal residence; new construction and rentals are not eligible.
- Tax credits are administered by the IRS and can be claimed when you file your federal taxes.
