Overview
The SMUD Home Battery Rebate is a rebate program offered by the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD). By enrolling in SMUD's My Energy Optimizer Partner+ program and participating in SMUD's Solar and Storage Rate, you can save up to $10,000 on your home battery system. The rebate amount is calculated at $500 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of your battery's capacity, minus a 20% holdback, with a maximum rebate of $10,000.

It can also reduce your electric bill by using stored energy during peak hours when electricity is most expensive. Additionally, using a home battery system helps the environment by shifting your excess solar generation to peak periods, reducing your carbon emissions.
More Information
- To qualify for this rebate, you must enroll in SMUD's My Energy Optimizer Partner+ program and participate in SMUD's Solar and Storage Rate.
- The rebate is available to new battery energy storage system customers who enroll within 90 days after receiving permission to operate from SMUD.
- Eligible battery brands include Tesla, Enphase, SolarEdge, Franklin, Sonnen, and Eguana.
- If you're adding a battery to an existing solar system, there's no interconnection fee; however, new solar plus battery projects have a one-time interconnection fee.
- Individual rental units are ineligible at this time until SMUD determines a way for owners and their tenants to mutually benefit from the program. Multifamily homes (including apartments, condos, and duplexes) are eligible as well, but same tenant restrictions apply.
- SMUD will always leave at least 20% reserve after any grid event so backup power is there when you need it.
