Overview

The SMUD Mini-Split Heat Pump Rebate offers homeowners up to $2,500 off the cost of upgrading to an energy-efficient heat pump system. The rebate amount depends on the type of equipment installed: $1,500 for a two-stage system and $2,500 for a variable-stage system. This rebate only applies to replacing existing fossil fuel appliances.

More Information

  • To qualify, the new system must have a variable-stage compressor and a connected thermostat.
  • The system must pass Title 24 via HERS CF3R, and if new ductwork is installed, it must be insulated to a minimum of R8.
  • The rebate is available to SMUD customers with an active account.
  • The home must be individually metered by SMUD.
  • The rebate is contingent on the project complying with all city/county ordinances, building codes, and permit requirements, including inspections.
  • Manufactured, modular, or factory-built homes qualify for a rebate only if all of the following are true:
    • The resident or homeowner is a SMUD customer with an active SMUD account.
    • The home is individually metered by SMUD.
    • The home is subject to state and local building codes.
