The SMUD Mini-Split Heat Pump Rebate offers homeowners up to $3,000 off the cost of upgrading to a new mini-split heat pump system. The rebate amount depends on the type of system you choose: $2,000 for a two-stage system and $3,000 for a variable-stage system. Your QuitCarbon-approved contractor will assist you in selecting the best system for your home and maximizing your savings.

This rebate is available to SMUD customers replacing existing fossil fuel appliances.

More Information

  • To qualify for the full rebate, the new system must meet SMUD's program standards, including passing Title 24 via HERS CF3R.
  • If new ductwork is installed, it must be insulated to a minimum of R8.
  • The rebate is available to SMUD customers with an active account.
  • The home must be individually metered by SMUD.
  • The rebate is contingent on the project complying with all city/county ordinances, building codes, and permit requirements, including inspections.
  • Manufactured, modular, or factory-built homes qualify for a rebate only if all of the following are true:
    • The resident or homeowner is a SMUD customer with an active SMUD account.
    • The home is individually metered by SMUD.
    • The home is subject to state and local building codes.
