Overview
CleanPowerSF's Water Heater Upgrade Program offers a rebate of $1,200 when you switch to a clean, efficient heat pump water heater. This program provides $50 monthly bill credits for two years after upgrading your water heater. To be eligible, you must be a residential customer of CleanPowerSF and replace an existing water heater with an eligible heat pump model. Your new water heater must be enrolled in a demand response program, such as OhmConnect, Automated Response Technology, or Hourly Flex Pricing. Additionally, ensure compliance with permit requirements from the Department of Building Inspection; your contractor will assist with this process.

- To qualify, you must be a residential customer of CleanPowerSF.
- Replace your existing water heater with an ENERGYSTAR® certified heat pump water heater with a Uniform Energy Factor (UEF) of 3.3 or greater.
- Enroll your new water heater in PG&E’s WatterSaver Program for daily load shifting.
- Ensure compliance with permit requirements from the Department of Building Inspection; your contractor will assist with this process.
- Customers on discount programs like CARE or FERA are eligible for an extra year of bill credits, totaling $1,800 over three years.
- This program has no specified end date and will continue until funds are exhausted, distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
