The Golden State Rebates program offers a $500 rebate for homeowners upgrading to a heat pump water heater, a highly efficient alternative to traditional electric resistance models. This incentive is available for units with a capacity of 45 to 55 gallons and a minimum Uniform Energy Factor (UEF) of 3.30. To qualify, the existing water heater must be a 40 or 50-gallon electric storage model. This rebate only applies to replacing existing electric resistance appliances. Please note that water heater installations will be inspected at random by phone, email, and/or in person by the program and/or the participating California utilities and/or the CPUC.
